Mount Bachelor's name was formally Bachelor Butte and was rename to promote big time skiing in Central Oregon. Mt. Bachelor is a dormant volcano located southwest of Bend Oregon in the Cascade Mountain Range of Central Oregon.
Mount Bachelor was formed about 15,000 years ago and has erupted many times forming the mountain you see today. It is the youngest volcano in the Three Sisters Area. Mount Bachelor ski Resort has operated on Mt. Bachelor since 1958, and is now a world-class ski resort. Mt. Bachelor has approximately 3,700 acres of skiable area and over a mile vertical drop a total of 3,370 feet.
Legend has it that Mt. Bachelor is the brother Jonathon of the three mountains know as the Three Sisters. He stands alone never to be married. Some of the area most beautiful sites can bee seen from Mt Bachelor. Some I cannot described, you would have to see it yourself.
