King and Queen of the Lake, Race Series

This is a fun, family race series for everyone interested in the “Hawaiian” paddlesports.
There is no entry fee and no prizes, just bragging rights and great “schwag” for finishers.

July 4th will be a practice and tune-up race for the three race series. The best two scores of the three races will be combined for the “King and Queen of the Lake”. There are many classes, including a Sport Class with a shortened course so everyone can participate and have fun! Elk Lake Resort is hosting a Luau on the final, Sept 26th!

Classes: must be three entries in class for class scoring
SUP MENS and WOMENS: Sport Class Under 12’6” (all-around and surf style boards), Race 12’6”, Race 14’, Race SUPer 50 (50+)

Schedule: The schedule is the same for each race day.
9:30-10:00am Registration at Elk Lake Resort (must register to participate, and comply
with all laws regulating watercraft)
10:15am Paddle Race Skippers Meeting
10:30am Paddle Race Mass Start
1:30pm Windsurfing skippers meeting, at Sunset View Beach
2:00pm Windsurfing Start

COURSE:
Here is a map of Elk Lake showing the traditional sailing buoy marks. History of these marks go back to the 1930’s

The course for each day's race will be announced at the skippers meeting. An example race and probably the course for the July 4th warm-up and practice race is:
Start at Elk Lake Resort (imaginary line off the end of the dock). Sport class will make one rounding of the Pin end buoy (counter-clockwise) and finish back at the Resort dock. All other race classes will do one rounding of the Pin end buoy, one rounding of the Windward buoy, another rounding of the Pin end buoy and finish at the resort dock.
