My name is Jay Walsh, General Manager for Elk Lake Resort located outside Bend, OR, and 1 mile off the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). I need to update you folks about who we are now and what we have to offer PCT hikers. We are new, local owners of the resort, and have spent the last 11 months renovating. Here is some general info about our resort. You can find more by going to our website at www.elklakeresort.net.

In the summer months, our hours of operation are 8 am to 8 pm. Our store offers a variety of snacks, medical supplies, and camping items: We hope to learn more about what PCT hikers’ need, so that we can help you re-supply on your way.

Our restaurant has been a big hit with the hikers this summer; I have never seen skinny people eat so much!

We offer (2) hot showers with bathroom facilities for $5. This includes towel, shampoo, and soap. Laundry facilities to wash and dry cost $2.

Camping Cabins are very popular with hikers. There are no amenities in the cabins except a propane lantern and heater, bed downstairs, loft, and two out of the three cabins have twin bunks. These are $58 per night starting this winter (we will offer a PCT discount to keep you at your current $45 rate). We plan to outfit these with new beds. We also have a 16 space private campground at $10 per night.

Drop shipping packages: we charge a $5 handling fee at time of pick up. We accept UPS or FedEx packages only at the resort. Do not send via the US Postal Service unless you give us a couple weeks lead-time. These will end up going to Bend instead of the resort. We only go to town once a week to pick up P.O. Box packages. Make sure the package is critter proof (mouse/chipmunk) so try to box in a hard plastic tote.

At the bottom of the package, an estimated time of arrival would be good.

I just got off the phone with Jim Nee/PCT hiker/Biologist/Naturalist, who has been very helpful in getting me onto your site, and providing me with suggestions to better serve PCTers. I hope that he will be joining us to work this next summer at the resort, and be our PCT go-to guy.
